Our Refinery

  The nominal capacity of the SEPAHAN Oil Refinery was 5000 barrel per day equals to 250,000 tons base oil per year. Enforcing the changes in the system without additional machineries compared with the primary plan, this company has been able to increase the production up to 400,000 tons of base oil and about 700,000 tons of the lubricating products and side products annually, through identifying the existing problems and using the experiences and expertise of our personnel in the relevant industry.

Extraction Unit with Furfural :
  The feed of Lube Cut Unit, which is one of the cuts of distillation towers in vacuum, is sent to the feed storage tanks located in the SEPAHAN Oil Refinery from distillation unit of raw petroleum of the refinery via two pipelines. Feeding tank consists of six storage tanks from which one is always acquiring Lube Cut from ISFAHAN Refinery and one is delivering Lube Cut to Furfural unit and other four tanks and after filling and confirming their specifications which are ready to be sent to the Furfural unit. The primary design of Furfural unit has been prepared for 10,000 feed barrels round-the clock that has increased up to over 15000 barrels through efforts made by the Engineering and Operational Groups.
Output of this unit is a product called Raffinate that will be sent to tanks or dewaxing units  
Dewaxing Unit :
  This unit is known as MEK due to using Methyl Ethyl Ketenes in unit and it conducts the operations for separating wax from oil.
The initial design of this unit was for oil feed of 4,800 barrels which presently has increased to 10,000 barrels. 

Finishing Oil Refinement Unit (Finishing Unit) :
  After exiting from the solvent recycling section the oil is sent to the finishing unit so that it is heated in thermal exchanger, then to be sent to the drying tower for being separated from oil under vacuum conditions through injecting neutral gas of Nitrogen, light compounds, water and sulfur and nitrogen compounds. The oil free of moisture or other compounds which causes corrosion in engine is transported to the reservoirs unit. The produced base oil is sent directly either for loading, exporting and or is transported to the blending unit (oil blending unit) for making different kinds of engine and industrial oils.

Production of Industrial paraffin:
  Dewaxing unit, in addition to the above mentioned operations, is able to produce industrial paraffin. It also produces Isorecycle that is the residue in the splitter tower in Isomax unit of Isfahan Refinery is sent directly to the Dewaxing unit for producing industrial paraffin.
Isorecycle is a mixture of solid and liquid paraffin. In Dewaxing unit, the liquid paraffin, as industrial paraffin and solid ones as light wax are separated from each other.

Processing Department:
  Processing Department is made for producing finished oils and lubricating products from the appropriate raw materials.
The processing operations are summarized in two ways:
  • The laboratorial and theoretical formulation of the lubricating products for which the processing conditions are provided or will be provided.
  • Mass production of formulated oil in such a way that the best product with the least error, energy consumption and human resources to be produced. Also, suitable conditions for storing and transferring the product as soon as possible.

Processing Operational Department includes the following steps:
Oil Production Engineering:
  Production engineering by benefiting from the academic expertise on chemical engineering is the joint language for both Laboratorial Researches and Operational Department. Among the functions of this office is:
  • Conversion the laboratorial formula to mass production in the best operational conditions and optimizing the factors of production & energy.
  • Preparation of formula for mass production of oil that raw formula will be achieved from engineering unit and implementation of necessary change according to production and control before mass production .
  • Determining required raw material of production before consumption.
  • Determining process parameters, sampling and its result.
  • Correction, Change or transferring oil parameters regarding to physical advantageous required by customer.
  • Removal of engineering requirements and blending unit for receiving proposals to improve working conditions for higher quality and cost reduction.
  • Determining suitable operational conditions like temperature and pressure of the product , safe movement and transformation to packing unit.
  • Offering engineering proposals for improvement parameters and suitable parameters for safe maintenance
Blending operations:
 This department is responsible to receive the production card from Production Engineering Department, provide the proper conditions for transferring the raw materials for the warehouse or other tanks according to the terms written in card and explanations presented by the production engineering and through coordination with the above-mentioned engineering.
